When my dermatologist and friend, Dr. Diane Berson, shared with me the story of Mindy Gorman and Live, Love and Laugh (LLL), a Foundation Mindy established to fund research for metastatic melanoma, I was instantly interested in joining the organization. This disease took the young life of my only sister 21 years ago, and the lack of any real breakthrough over the past two decades in finding a cure for this disease, inspired me to get involved immediately. My sister's name was Mindy, so I felt a connection to Mindy Gorman and her mission right away.
As a member of the Board of Directors, I work closely with Mindy in an advisory capacity, bringing to her and LLL some of my business experience through my experience with the Estee Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, my current assignment. I also bring the support and experience of fundraising for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Medical research to fight cancer will benefit everyone and the search for a cure is one that I want to support in any way that I can.
On a personal note, I was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. My professional career started with the pharmaceutical industry, moved into the consumer products marketing arena, and developed into a career in international marketing, specifically with Clinique, where I spent 25 years building the international business sector of the company. I was always involved in Estee Lauder’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, but decided to focus on this part of the company specifically six years ago, after returning from the Program for Management Development, a three month program at the Harvard Business School. In my free time, I enjoy literature, film, music and philanthropy. I am married and have one daughter, Rachel, who is teaching high school history in New York City.
Going forward, my goal is to provide support and energy to grow the donor base, the level of financial contributions and the membership of LLL. I would like to ultimately fund a significant level of clinical trials in the field of metastatic melanoma. With government funding on the decline, leading institutions are desperate for private funds to support the important groundbreaking research that will lead to a cure. I am dedicated to making that happen. |
